I think the spider is a ghost spider – there are a number of species. They live on flowers and catch pollinating insects. Some species are specific colours to hide on specific flowers.

It’s Misumena Vatia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misumena_vatia) or Flower crab spider, I managed to google it out
. The spider on the Wikipedia pic has very similar patterns. And you’re right: they change color based on the type of flower they live on.
