GroundTruth Released!
I’m happy to announce I finally managed to finish most of the things I planned for the first release of GroundTruth, a mapmaking software for Garmin maps.
You can find the download package on http://downloads.igorbrejc.net/osm/groundtruth/.
For more information about GroundTruth, here are some links:
- http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/GroundTruth

- my first post about GroundTruth
- all of my posts about GroundTruth
I still have to write the manual on OSM wiki, so please be patient. And since this is a first release, expect bugs. Please report if you find any. Thanks!
BTW here are some screenshots of a GroundTruth hiking map taken from my Garmin eTrex Vista:

Awesome. Getting good hiking maps on my Garmin was the motivation for me to join OSM in the first place. I’ve played with mkgmap but with unsatisfactory results, and I intended to write my own OSM-to-MP program in Java (I know there’s a perl version available, but yuck). Good luck and I’ll look forward to future developments.

I have problems extracting the zip. Any chance the zip is broken? Can the background be set to invisible, making it possible to overlay the output .img on another?

Hi,
the tool sounds very interesting, but I wasn’t able to extract the ZIP-Archive. I have downloaded it a few times with diverent PCs and there was always a message that the Archive is Corrupt.
Can you please check if the ZIP-File on your Server is korrekt?

@Vidar, @Chrisz
I’ve downloaded the ZIP myself now and I can extract it without problems. Could you please give me more info about your system: OS, which ZIP extractor are you using (standard Windows, 7zip, ..?).
About the transparency: I’ve added a Q/A about it on the GroundTruth Manual page

Hi,
I have tested it on Ubuntu 8.10 with the integrated unzipper and on XP-SP3 with integrated unzipper and with WinRAR. I will now try the new ZIP-Archiv
